Welcome to Lesson 1, Messaging Defined! In this lesson you’ll learn What is Messaging, What is Messaging NOT, and why does it matter?

What is messaging?

Very simply, messaging is the words and phrases you use to talk about your brand, your business, or your offer. Messaging is not copy, it is not content, and it is not blog posts or emails, but Messaging does impact the words you use within each of those pieces.

There are two types of messaging that you’ll need for your business - brand messaging and offer messaging. This program will take you through the process of creating Offer Messaging, but know that the process for creating Brand Messaging is largely the same, with the focus on how you or your brand solves your ideal client’s problem, vs. how your specific offer solves their problem. Also know that you can come back to this program each time you create a new offer to create new messaging for that offer!

Here’s why messaging is so important - consistent messaging helps your audience understand what your offer does for them and why they need it. And repetition of your messaging helps enforce the idea that you are the go-to person for the solution to their problem.

Though you’ll talk about a lot of different selling points in your content and in your website copy, your messaging remains the guiding light that you always want to point back to.Think of it almost like spokes on a wheel. Your offer is the hub, and each selling point of your offer is a point around the hub. Your messaging is what connects that specific selling point back to the overarching outcome of your offer.

Now, you're probably wondering why, if messaging is so important, it’s covered so late in the program! The truth is, messaging is so intricately intertwined with the specifics of your offer and your audience that we need true clarity on those two things before we can work on messaging.

And, once you have clarity on those things, your messaging will naturally flow! So, you’ll find it easy to create your messaging once you’ve worked to align your offer with your audience, and then we’ll use the work you do in distilling your messaging, to help you create content!

One last note here before we move onto the final section of the intro… some coaches teach that you need to have an offer before you can have clarity on your ideal client, and some coaches teach that you need to know who you want to work with before you can create an offer for them. There’s not a “right or wrong” in this situation…it truly is preference.

For the sake of our program, I am going to assume that you already have an offer in mind, and the work you do in the program will be to get clear on who your Dream Client is, and then our work in the Offer Optimization section will be to tweak that offer to make it the most efficient it can be to help your Dream Client get the results she is looking for.

In the next section we’re going to talk about your Mental Game. Whether you want to admit it or not, your mind has the power to make or break your progress through this program (and ultimately your success in business), so I want to take just a few minutes to help you harness your brain’s power for good as often as possible!
